This piece, "Gaa", is for my Grandma Sanchez. I grew up crawling along her terrazzo floors, eating oranges and ice cream, and learning to swim till my fingers were pruned. We were very close throughout my most crucial early years. Her strength, intelligence, and fierce independence are currents that run through my veins today. She was our Matriarch. She took to the South like it was her native land; a proud LSU graduate. She was The Tiger Lady - proud, regal, loving and benevolent. She raised 4 children all on her own, was a Mensa Genius, and was Knighted by the King of Spain. She smoked a joint with Billie Holiday in New York in the 1940's. She lived and loved a good long life - I miss her very much, and talk to her every day.
